Nursing homes in Texas are in trouble.

At $6 an hour, teenagers make more mowing yards than the state of Texas pays for nursing home care.

The quality of care provided to your family members and friends is at risk.

Send a message to your state legislators that Texas can do better. Take action now and show you care. It’s easy, the message is already prepared.

Even the strongest advocates of limited government believe providing care for vulnerable seniors is a fundamental responsibility, but the state’s record doesn’t reflect that commitment.

Underfunding nursing homes in Texas has become the norm and it shows. Texas nursing homes that care for aging and sick Texans, who have depleted their life savings, are at the bottom of national rankings for staffing and quality of care. Nursing homes are closing, leaving the state and filing for bankruptcy. Texas can do better.

Inadequate funding is a major barrier to improving quality and is fueling a caregiver crisis among overworked nurses with annual turnover rates of more than 90 percent. This jeopardizes a nursing home’s ability to care for our loved ones. Texas has to do better.

A silver tsunami of aging baby boomers combined with fewer family caregivers, more complex medical conditions (e.g.-Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s...) and some of the highest staff turnover rates in the country is pushing Texas nursing homes to the brink. Texas must do better.

During the 2019 legislative session, Texas legislators will have the chance to vote on the Texas Nursing Home Quality Act that:

icon of house

Will stabilize the nursing home sector in Texas

icon of stop

Does not increase the state budget or increase taxes

icon of piggy bank

Uses federal funds available to improve nursing home care that aren’t being used by the state

icon of 100%

Will be 100% dedicated to improving the quality of care in Texas nursing homes

Sending a message to your legislator to support this bipartisan proposal can take less than two minutes. A prepared message asking them to improve care in Texas nursing can easily be sent by completing the form above. Take a moment to help make sure elderly Texans aren’t worried about whether they’ll be okay. Help make sure someone you love is taken care of the way you would want them to be.
